The Hummingbird

Josephine, Empress and Queen

She rests above my piano, eternally dignified - a true Empress. But who was she really? The Rose of Martinique? The Hummingbird to Napoleon's Sword? Was their divorce really the end of Napoleon? It cannot be denied that, chronologically, the decline of his glorious empire began not too long after he divorced her to marry Marie-Louise. Our Josephine died of a broken heart when her former husband, Emperor was sent into exile. He died with her name on his lips. Her life was unique and her person a fascinating figure in Modern History.

Here's to you, Josephine.
